Adjective / British & American Slang
Triggered describes a strong emotional reaction, often negative, caused by a specific topic, event, or comment. Originally linked to psychological trauma, it’s now widely used, sometimes seriously, sometimes mockingly, to highlight when someone is visibly offended or disturbed.
Example: “He got triggered when they started talking about politics.”
Means: “He became upset or emotionally affected by the political discussion.”
Example: “She’s always triggered by jokes like that.”
Means: “She frequently gets upset by that type of joke.”
