Bezzled is an old Northern English dialect term used to describe someone who has drunk heavily, is habitually fond of drink, or has wasted money and health through alcohol. It can also mean intoxicated or worn down by drinking.
Example: “He hath bezzled his patrimony in sack and dice.”
Means: “He has squandered his inheritance on drink and gambling.”
Example: “Yon landlord’s auld and sore bezzled wi’ ale.”
Means: “That landlord is old and badly worn out from ale.”
